Yes, I see in the New Stock Item Details screen there is a place to enter a drawing number. That is fine if you are using the idea of drawing number equals part number. I believe the SAP system uses this "meta data" system. However, I stick to the ANSI/ASME (American National Standards Institute/American Society of Mechanical Engineers) standards where in you have a drawing (or document) number and for a part number you add a suffix number (used to be called a dash number). You would have a drawing number of XXXXX that details the specifications and a part number would be XXXXX-YYY. For instance if you had resistors with 5% tolerance, 1/4 W, axial leaded that had specifications detailed on drawing number 10000, then the suffix number would indicate the value, such as 10000-102 would be a 1 kΩ value. What say?
